Thameswey’s contribution towards keeping the lights on across the UK has been assured through successful participation in the first auction for the new Capacity Market.

Part of a packages of government measures designed to ensure electricity generation keeps pace with national demand, the Capacity Market encourages reliable generators to operate at times when the national grid is under stress and requires back-up for more intermittent generators (such as wind).

The first round of auctions for this new market were held earlier this month and mean that from October 2018 onward exported electricity from Thameswey’s CHP generators in Milton Keynes will be used to help bridge the gap between the predicted availability of electricity on the national grid and the minimum level required to guarantee reliable supplies to everyone.
