Funded by the Department of Energy and Climate Change (DECC) and supported by Surrey Heath Borough Council, Streets Ahead provides grant funding for Surrey’s residents who live in properties which are not suitable for cavity wall insulation.

Following a Green Deal Assessment of the Home, arranged by Action Surrey, Resident Moiya Bewsher was provided with recommendations on how to improve her homes’ energy efficiency. She was delighted that she could save over £330 per year on her energy bills by installing solid wall insulation . Plus with the financial assistance from Streets Ahead she has only had to contribute just under two thirds of the costs for her installation.

With the support of Streets Ahead arranging her preferred installer to provide a suitable quote, she is now looking forward to the solid wall insulation reducing the level of heat being lost through her walls, as well as saving energy. She commented: “I was originally interested in installing solar panels to help the environment but when I saw that I could receive £3,500 towards insulating my home, I saw that as a far more viable option. I look forward to feeling the benefits from the install, in addition to helping the environment”.

Surrey Heath’s Portfolio holder for community Councillor Vivienne Chapman, Said: “This is a great scheme for helping many Surrey Heath Residents to keep their homes warm, including ones that might not have been suitable for cavity wall insulation. I wholly recommend residents to find out if they’re eligible to receive one of the hundreds of new grants available.

“External wall insulation will make it easier to heat a home and keep it warm for longer, plus save money through reduced energy bills.”

There are still just under 400 grants still available for residents in Surrey, which recently have been increased from £3,500 to £5,000 per person, meaning that residents will now be contributing less towards the cost of their install. The streets ahead grant is not means or age tested, and is purely based on the construction of your home and on the basis that 50% of the walls which are suitable for solid wall insulation are insulated.
