An Ashford resident has received a grant of £5,000 through Action Surrey’s Streets Ahead project.

Funded by the Department of Energy and Climate Change (DECC) and supported by Spelthorne Borough Council, Streets Ahead provides grant funding for Surrey’s residents who live in properties which are not suitable for cavity wall insulation.

Following a Green Deal Assessment of the home, arranged by Action Surrey, Mr Gale was provided with recommendations of how to improve the energy efficiency of his home. He was delighted that he was predicted to save over £155 per year on his energy bills by installing solid wall insulation. Plus with the financial assistance from Streets ahead he has only had to contribute roughly half the  cost of his installation.

With the support of Streets Ahead arranging his preferred installer to provide a suitable quote, he is now looking forward to the solid wall insulation reducing the level of heat being lost through his walls. Mr Gale commented that the process through streets ahead “all went very smoothly” and that “the workmen were excellent. They turned up on time, there was not much mess and they were very handy”.

Spelthorne Borough Councillor Colin Davis, the cabinet member for the environment, said: “It’s excellent news that the grant funding is helping residents to reduce the cost improvements. Grants are still available so this is an ideal opportunity to make your home warmer and more energy efficient”.

There are still just under 250 grants available for residents in Surrey at £5,000.00 per property. The Streets Ahead grant is not means or age tested, and is purely based on the construction of your home and on the basis that 50% of the walls which are suitable for solid wall insulation are insulated.
